This is an early 20th-century (1928) sterling silver Art Deco match book case. Made by the luxury silversmiths Asprey & Co.
Lovely two-tone engine-turned design, with gold wash sloping edges.
The lid is opened by Asprey patented trick opening sliding hinge, this design eliminates the thumbpiece. The hinge is spring-loaded and so, the lid pops open when the lock is disengaged.
The interior with original gilding (gold wash). Fully hallmarked.
9k gold applied initials MMS.
A good quality and sturdy case. Heavy for its size.
