This is a very rare 19th-century Victorian multiple quill cutter penknife, comprises 12 folding blades. The slender blades designed for cutting quill pen nibs to shape.
The penknife in unusual double Scroll shape. The pins are decorated with flower heads on both sides.
Original high carbon antique steel blades that are strong and robust.
Genuine mother of pearl scales.
Great working condition, the hinges are tight, give strong snap when the blades are being opened and closed.
No inscriptions or monograms.
The blades are still thick and strong (not flimsy).
Carbon steel, which unlike stainless steel, can be ground to a very sharp cutting edge. Early/antique folding knives were made using carbon steel.
DIMENSION: Length : CLOSED 8.4cm (3 1/4"). Each blade measures 3.4cm (1 3/8") approx.
WEIGHT: 33.5g
CONDITION: Good condition with some age related wear, one blade damaged, two hairline cracks to one side of the pearl. In excellent working condition.
