This is a rare English-Chester Hallmarked, Sampson Mordan 9ct solid gold double bladed folding antique penknife.
The blades are of high carbon steel. Both stamped with what looks like a triple S symbol.
One side inscribed.
Hallmarked on both sides.
The blades snap strongly when being opened and closed. Hinges are tight without wobble.
Carbon steel, which unlike stainless steel, can be ground to a very sharp cutting edge. Early/antique folding knives were made using carbon steel.

DIMENSION: Length : CLOSED 7.4m (2 7/8"). OPEN with both blades extended 15cm (6") approx.
CONDITION: Good condition with general light wear, one blade tip has a tiny chip, only minor. No dents or damage to the gold casing. The knife is in excellent working order.
