This is a decent size Georgian-George III early 19th-century (c1800) Sheffield sterling silver & mother of pearl folding knife.
Genuine mother of pearl panels on both sides, with an inscribed cartouche.
The hinge is firm but has a slight wobble. The blade latches on at 90° and then 180° and gives a soft snap when being closed.
The blade still has a good gauge and thickness of silver - not flimsy. No dents.
HALLMARKS: Sheffield, SILVER fineness 925. No maker's mark stamped this is common with folding knives of this period.
DATE: c1800
DIMENSION: Length : CLOSED 7.9cm (3"). OPEN 14cm (5 1/2") approx.
WEIGHT: 19.5g
CONDITION: Good condition with some minor wear consistent with age and use. No splits to the mother of pearl panels. The streaks on the panels are reflections and natural textures, not cracks. The bolster capping has some surface damage.
