This is a very rare early c1780 pistol-grip handled Georgian-George III Sheffield sterling silver & mother of pearl folding knife.
Genuine mother of pearl panels on both sides.
Fancy long bolster.
The hinge is in excellent condition and sturdy. No wobble. The blade latches on at 90° and then 180° and gives a snap sound when being closed.
The blade still has a good thickness of silver - not flimsy.
Free from inscriptions or monograms.
Still in excellent working order.
HALLMARKS: Sheffield, STERLING fineness 92.5%. MAKER William Fox
DIMENSION: Length : CLOSED 6.9cm (2 3/4"). OPEN 12.4cm (4 7/8") approx.
CONDITION: Good condition for its age. Tiny splits on the bolster. No splits to the mother of pearl panels. The streaks on the panels are reflections and natural textures.
