This is an early 19th-century (c1810) sterling silver & MOP folding penknife or fruit knife.
Sterling silver hallmarked blade.
Genuine mother of pearl panels on both sides.
The hinge is sturdy. It latches at 90° and then 180°, it gives a strong snap sound when being closed.
Good blade - the silver still has a good thickness and heavy gauge - not flimsy.
A fine early piece, genuine circa 210 year old English antique folding knife.
HALLMARKS: Sheffield, SILVER fineness 925. No maker's mark stamped this is common with folding knives of this period.
DATE: circa 1810
DIMENSION: Length : CLOSED 7.2cm (2 7/8"). OPEN 13.2cm (5 1/8") approx.
CONDITION: Excellent condition for its age without damage. Slight dent to the tip of the blade. Well preserved. No splits to the mother pearl panels. The streaks on the panels are natural texture of the MOP and not cracks.
