This is a rare late 19th-century (c1890) Chinese Export solid silver basket with a swing handle, raised on a collet foot.
Exquisitely decorated with hand chased and repousse pierced decorations of bamboo foliage, interspersed with flowers and birds.
Four bat motifs divide the ornamentations into four themes: a chrysanthemum; a sparrow; a crane with irises and cherry blossom.
Bats symbolise Prosperity.
The decorations are crisp and highly detailed.
Bearing the marks for WA (1845-1900), a Canton silversmith, plus a Chinese chop mark.
The silver tested and shows 900+ silver grade.
The basket is free from personal inscriptions or monograms.
A beautiful genuine Chinese (circa 125 year old) antique silver basket.
