This is an early 20th-century (c.1913) large Burmese white metal/low grade silver antique Thabeik bowl.
Heavily ornamented with finely hand chased and repousse decorations.
Depicting a continuous scene of Burmese court life: a King and Queen among courtiers, men in horse-drawn cart, a person in traditional Burmese dress, offering a basket of food to two naga(mythical serpents) under a bodhi tree. A band of water cabbage petals frame the bottom border.
All represented in characteristic Burmese high relief repousse work. The figures in this bowl are realistic and highly detailed.
The base has inscriptions 'Presented to H. F. Burke by his Burmese staff, Kalewa Upper Burma. April 1913'.
A superb genuine Burmese antique circa 106-year-old antique Thabeik bowl.
DIMENSION: Diameter: 26cm (10 1/4"). Height: 17cm (6 3/4") approx.
CONDITION: Very good condition without damage. General minor age related wear.
