A fine 1902 Victorian/Edwardian solid sterling silver cigarette case. 

Rectangular form with a curved back design.

Densely decorated with hand engraved and flat chasing of intricate scrolling foliage & flowers.

The decorations are crisp and highly detailed, both to the front and back.

It has original gilding to the interior.

It has replacement straps, they are now both taut and in good working order.

Fully hallmarked in the interior. There is an additional lion passant Sterling mark on the rear facing of the clasp (last image)

It has no personal monograms or crests on the cartouche. No previous erasure.

HALLMARKS: Birmingham, STERLING fineness 92.5%. MAKER H Hayes

DATE: 1902

DIMENSION: 8.3cm x 6.4cm (3 1/4" x 2 1/2").  Thickness: 1.6cm (5/8") approx.

WEIGHT: 75.3g

CONDITION: The case is in excellent condition except one of the internal straps and associated clasps are lacking, please see 3rd image. Replacement straps. The silver case itself is in great condition, without dents or splits. The lids close flush and give a nice strong click sound.
