RARE TIBETAN SILVER 'ENLIGHTENMENT' BOWL

An early 20th-century Tibetan solid silver large antique bowl.

Heavily ornamented with hand repousse and chased foliage, lotus flowers and animals.

The top row with closed lotus buds -  representing the time before enlightenment; the bottom row with of lotus flowers fully bloomed - representing full enlightenment and self-awareness.

These lotus flowers are interspersed with 12 Tibetan zodiac animals which follow Buddhist astrology: rat, cow, tiger, hare, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, bird, dog and pig. They represent the cycle of life.

The two cartouches on the base. One translated as 'solid silver' and the other possibly the chop mark of the maker/artisan. The silver further acid tested, and shows 900+ silver standard.

A beautiful antique silver Tibetan large bowl, which represents the processes of Buddhism enlightenment through the cycle of life.
