Regency Silver



A fine late 19th century (c1890) antique rectangular Vizagapatam box.

Tortoiseshell veneered with a hinged domed lid, raised on four carved paw feet.

The body is densely decorated with intricate carved and openwork of ivory panels; hand painted and engraved arabesque floral motifs.

The top embellished with an engraved winged deity.

It has a lock but is lacking a key.

It is free of any other personal inscriptions or crests.

The interior is lined with original rich purple velvet. 

The base lined with original Persian red colour velvet.

A beautiful circa 120 year old genuine Anglo Indian Vizagapatam box.

DATE: Circa 1890

DIMENSION: 18.2cm x 12.6cm (7 1/4" x 5"). Height: 7.4cm (2 7/8")  approx.

WEIGHT: 370g

CONDITION: Some age related wear and small splits. Some small splits amongst the openwork but no large missing pieces. Some small splits on the edge pieces but no missing straps. Some wear to the veneered panels. The lid closes flush with the body. The interior is in clean condition. The velvet lining is in good condition with minor fraying but without stain or holes.
